The Cotswold Flying School is a small friendly flying training organisation based in the Control Tower at the newly named Cotswold Airport at Kemble in Gloucestershire which is close to the catchment area of Cheltenham and Gloucester (30 mins), Swindon (30 mins), Bath and North Bristol (45 Mins). We are CAA approved for flying training and also to conduct ground school exams. Our Chief Flying Instructor Chris Puddy is a highly experienced pilot with over 14,000 total hours and over 3000 instructional hours. The flying training and aircraft hire is available in a modern 4 seat Cessna 172 SP which has a 180 hp fuel injected engine. The aircraft is fully equipped for Instrument flying, meaning that it could be flown on the airways in controlled airspace by anyone with an Instrument Rating. It also has a three axis autopilot and a built in GPS which can be linked to it. This modern comfortable aeroplane is a long way from some of the old aircraft that can be found in most flying training organisations, and everybody who either trains in it or hires it loves it.

Cotswold Flying School Cessna 172
At the school you can be trained for your Private Pilots Licence which will allow you to fly and carry passengers anywhere in Europe invisual weather conditions. You can also be trained for your night rating or IMC rating which will allow you to fly at night, or in instrument meteorological conditions within the United Kingdom. A cheaper but more restrictive option is to get your NPPL rating which will allow you to fly only within British Airspace. But it can be upgraded later. Find out more about licencing in the UK here.
We charge by the time you are actually airborne, plus an allowance of 6 minutes at each end of the flight for taxying for take off and after landing, and doing the necessary pre-take off checks. Some schools will charge you for the time that the engine is running, or the actual time from releasing the breaks to stopping at the end of the flight. This may mean that you could pay the full flying rate for sitting waiting for take off at a busy airfield. This enables us to offer cheap flying training on the Gloucestershire Wiltshire border near to Bristol and Bath from Cotswold Airport Kemble, which is an airfield free of Air Traffic Control restrictions. This means anyone learning to fly never has to waste time ferrying to another airfield to carry out circuits for their flying training.
Have a trial lesson with us or buy one as a present for a special friend or loved one. The voucher is valid for 6 months.

Flying Instructors
Paul Wilmington
Paul is part of the fixtures at Kemble. He began instructing with one of the first flying schools here at the turn of the new millennium. Paul works part time for us as he is currently flying a Challenger private jet all over the world.
Alan George
Alan has recently joined us part time, he is freelance and has a FAA CPL/IR and Instructor Rating so he can perform FAA Bi-Annual Reviews. He is one of our fine boys in blue at the moment, but will be retiring soon for a career in the skies.
Justin Mohan
Justin is less experienced than the other instructors but he is fully qualified and unrestricted. He is a local chap, and can definitely match the others for ability and skills. As he has more recently qualified, he is full of the latest information on flying training, and he is very good at pre-flight briefings.
